In this role, you will be part of a team building Esper’s flagship product, the Esper Foundation for Android, a custom Android-based operating system built for enterprises, optimized for dedicated Android devices.
As a staff engineer, you will play a vital role in defining the technical direction of Esper Foundation for Android. You will work to enhance the compatibility of the operating system on a diverse range of devices across architectural boundaries.


What you’ll do

  • Be the architect of key features for Esper's flagship product, Esper Foundation for Android - an enterprise-ready, Android-based OS optimized for dedicated devices.
  • Be responsible for driving R&D projects and engineering solutions around customer-driven OS engineering problems and execute them end to end.
  • Work with different engineering teams across multiple time zones to drive and coordinate changes.


What we are looking for

  • Deep understanding of AOSP build system, different frameworks and components within AOSP and basic understanding of Linux kernel and SELinux.
  • 8+ years of experience in Android OS/AOSP engineering, with proven expertise in advanced Java programming.
  • Experience building Android apps and working in the Enterprise space.
  • Experience in using any SCM in day to day development e.g git, mercurial etc.
  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in computer science/engineering or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with running Android on x86 hardware or on GSIs is a big plus.
  • Experience working at third party, open-source orgs like LineageOS is a big plus.
  • Experience working with CTS tests and building CTS-compliant Android platforms is desired.
  • Experience working on Android OS for GMS certified devices is a huge plus.
  • Experience working with the telephony layer i.e Android RIL is a bonus.
